The topic I chose to research for environmental injustice is the Potomac River Watershed Cleanup/Pollution. A leading activist in the struggle is the Alice Ferguson Foundation. Alice Ferguson connected people to the natural world, sustainable agricultural practices, and the cultural heritage of their local watershed through education, stewardship, and advocacy.
Nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment are top pollutants found in the Potomac River and its tributaries. While each occurs naturally, excess amounts of nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) and sediment can harm aquatic life, degrade wildlife habitat, contribute to harmful algal blooms, and make local streams, rivers, and drinking water sources unsafe. -Pollution | 2020 #potomacreportcard | #potomacreportcard
My mosaic is made up of images portraying the Potomac River Watershed pollution; the Alice Ferguson Foundation and the land along with their cleanup day volunteers; and people fishing and swimming in the Potomac River.
